Eko UK CSR and the environment

Eko UK is committed to help reduce environmental impact.

For every 20 hours of support or software development provided, we plant a tree in the UK through the Carbon Managers registered charity.

We are just a small business making a small effort. None the less we sleep well knowing we, and our customers, are contributing in a positive way and believe that if all businesses took a similar stance the net effect would be significant.

  • CO2 in the atmosphere

Charles David Keeling in the 1950’s was the first person to accurately measure the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere. The Scripps Institute of Oceanography has been collecting these data from the remote Pacific island of Mauna Loa and provides startling figures. The concentration is increasing year on year, and growing exponentially. Drilled samples from the polar ice caps have enabled us to discover atmospheric CO2levels dating back 420,000 years. The chart not only correlates ice ages with CO2 levels, it shows that current concentrations are unprecedented in the Earths recent history.
  • effects of global warming

One already visible significant environmental effect is the dramatic loss of arctic sea ice over the past 30 years, shown below on satellite images from NASA. Compare 1979 with 2007. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Fourth Assessment Report of 2007 states that “Scientific evidence for warming of the climate system is unequivocal.” And is most likely due to the observed increase in greenhouse gases. The predicted effects are many, with some already occurring, and are likely to have huge environmental and economic impacts. Primarily, rising sea levels, glacial shrinkage and an increase in extreme weather will lead to low land flooding, an increase in droughts, further species extinction, reduction in crop yields, desertification and a reduction of fresh water globally (IPCC).
  • how can you help?

We all have a responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint at home and work. Implementing simple changes can reduce CO2 and save money.

    Top 10 Eco Tips

  • we plant trees

Eko UK is dedicated to reducing environmental impact. As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme, for every 20 hours of support or software development provided, we will plant a tree in the UK through the Carbon Managers a registered charity. click here for more infomation Science has not yet found a more effective carbon capture device than a tree, thus we are hoping to make a positive contribution and mitigate the rising levels of greenhouse gasses.
